About Us

Tynkertopia, Inc. is an award-winning nonprofit in Flagstaff, AZ whose mission is to serve as a STEAM Community Center dedicated to helping children, youth, and families cultivate confidence as independent, lifelong learners, and expand their creativity, inquiry, and STEAM skills, knowledge, and attitudes. Our vision is to build a stronger future for Flagstaff and Northern Arizona youth and families by offering free community-based STEAM learning opportunities.

STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics + A for the Arts = STEAM

The Position: STEAM Program Director

The person in this position will work in our synergistic, fast-paced work environment under the direction of the Tynkertopia Executive Director. This is a full-time, position that pays $45,000 – $55,000 commensurate with experience.

Requirements

  • University or college degree
  • Fingerprint clearance card
  • 2 or more years of relevant experience
  • Facility with evolving technology
  • Ability to do moderate lifting
  • Positive experiences educating children and/or youth

Position Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Executive Director to achieve the mission and vision of Tynkertopia
  • Provide overall leadership and management of Tynkertopia and the Tynkertopia team
  • Participate in strategic planning processes to set goals, establish priorities, and develop action plans for improving educational outcomes and organizational effectiveness
  • Create a learning environment that inspires students to develop confidence as independent, lifelong learners and expand their creativity, inquiry, and STEAM skills
  • Address issues and challenges as they arise, making informed decisions, and taking appropriate actions to resolve problems and ensure the smooth operation and growth of Tynkertopia
  • Show professionalism when interacting with all members of the Tynkertopia community
  • Build community and relationships with Flagstaff and Northern Arizona children, youth, and families by engaging children and families in STEAM activities and lessons
  • Maintain facility for safety and constructive learning
  • Coordinate logistics for community events, field trips, classes, clubs, and camps; act as a face of Tynkertopia at these events
  • Oversee inventory of office and program supplies
  • Support individual students through one-on-one mentoring and teaching
  • Teach Tynkertopia STEAM classes aligned with skill set
  • Recruit and track junior interns, paid interns, and volunteers
  • Attend one-on-one mentoring appointments and scheduled staff meetings
