Overview

Manages various administrative roles within the department including equipment and supply inventories, employee training, project logistics, interview and hiring boards, departmental software, helping to establish department policies and procedures, and other duties as required.

Oversees the daily activities of custodial services, such as personnel, work assignments, training, quality assurance, and inventory control, to ensure the effectiveness of the unit.

Essential Physical Requirements

Heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.
Work in an environment having some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
Moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

Job Function and Duties:

Administrative: Inventory and Equipment Management (35%)

  • Reviews and approves new equipment and chemical purchases with a focus on meeting the department’s needs while keeping the department within budgetary constraints.
  • Reviews and approves building supply orders with a focus on limiting waste while ensuring purchases meet the needs of the campus.
  • Assists in negotiations with supply vendors with a focus on streamlining the department’s product line and eliminating product overlap.
  • Oversees departmental inventory records and custodial software.
  • Assists in establishing, modifying, and enforcing department policies and procedures

Personnel Supervision, Hiring, and Training  (30%)

  • Supervises the department equipment mechanic, workloader, and trainer, including work schedules, projects and assignments, periodic and annual assessments, disciplinary actions (as required) and payroll.
  • Supervises student workers
  • Reviews new hire applications as well as arranging and participating in interview boards.
  • Establishes and oversees departmental training requirements, classes, schedules, and records.

Quality Assurance and Control (15%)

  • Oversees quality control ensuring that supervisors and Zone Leads are performing quality inspections accurately and consistently, as well as issuing quality reports, and maintaining/modifying QC forms as required.
  • Oversees equipment condition, distribution, scheduling, and monitors usage.
  • Conducts quality and process inspections across campus.
  • Performs equipment and supply inspections across campus.

Project Management (15%)

  • Assists supervisors in establishing department priorities with a focus on staying within budgetary constraints.
  • Assists in the planning of annual projects and special events in regards to personnel requirements, equipment, and supply requirements as well as arranging for the appropriate equipment and supplies to be available for said projects and events.
  • Coordinates with department supervisors as well as other departments and managers across campus in order to meet the needs of the University.

Other Duties as assigned (5%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field pertinent to this work.
  • 1-2 years of management or supervisory experience and 2-4 years of relevant experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training and / or education pertaining to the job assignment.

Annual Salary

The budgeted amount is $47,634-$59,542.

Commensurate with experience.

**The starting salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
