Coconino Community College, located in scenic northern Arizona, is a major provider of healthcare professionals throughout Coconino County and is known for its quality graduates. The Director of Nursing & Allied Health administers the Nursing Education and Allied Health programs in accordance with Arizona State Board of Nursing and Coconino Community College policies, procedures, and rules. The Director ensures the ongoing quality of these programs and maintains positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff and with external stakeholders. The Director reports to the Dean of Career & Technical Education (CTE). This position is a full-time, 12 month, benefit-eligible position based at the Fourth Street Campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Administer the nursing education and allied health programs in accordance with Arizona State Board of Nursing and Coconino Community College policies, procedures, and rules.
Direct activities related to academic policies, personnel policies, curriculum, resources, facilities, services, and program evaluation for the nursing education and allied health programs.
Prepare and administer program budgets.
Hire and supervise all full-time and part-time faculty in Nursing and Allied Health.
Ensure that Nursing and Allied Health faculty meet HLC, AZBN, and CAHEP credentialing requirements.
Ensure that nursing program faculty members are evaluated according to Arizona State Board of Nursing rules.
Develop, evaluate, and enforce both student and faculty policies regarding minimal requisite nursing skills and knowledge necessary to provide safe patient care for the type of unit and patient assignment in cooperation with program faculty.
Enforce consistent application of all Nursing program policies.
Develop, evaluate, and enforce student and faculty policies necessary for safe patient care and to meet clinical agency requirements in cooperation with program faculty.
Participate in activities that contribute to the governance of the College.
Maintain standards for continuing accreditation of the Nursing and Certified Nursing Assistant programs by the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
Guide Nursing and Allied Health programs to specialized accreditation and maintain standards for continuing accreditation.
Maintain membership on appropriate state committees for nursing programs and attends articulation task force (ATF) meetings.
Identify locations and negotiate contracts for clinical placements, plan and schedule clinical experiences, and perform follow-up evaluations with clinical agencies.
Coordinate the admissions process and ensure that prospective students are evaluated fairly and ethically. Prepare and conduct the orientation program for new students.
Work with the Dean of CTE and Student Development personnel to advise students and to handle grade appeals, petitions, course substitutions, and authorize exceptions to procedures as appropriate.
Investigate, mediate, and resolve student, faculty, and staff complaints.
Build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, including healthcare providers and facilities throughout Coconino County.
Pursue external funding and other donations. Assist in the preparation of grant applications in cooperation with the Dean of Career & Technical Education and other College personnel.
Build the course schedule for Nursing and Allied Health and approve textbook adoptions or modifications.
Facilitate communication throughout the College and convene regularly scheduled department meetings.
Promote the mission, values, purposes and strategic plan of the college.
Ensure a positive climate for students, faculty, and staff in the nursing and allied health programs.
Maintain posted office hours.
May teach up to 3 load hours per semester as part of regular duties.
Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of management and supervisory principles and methods and techniques of budgetary control.  Skill in organization and in effective business and interpersonal communication.  Ability to teach effectively.  Knowledge of subject area.  Ability to maintain professional ethics, to promote the mission of the college, to work in a team environment, and to work in a culturally diverse environment.   Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, such as FERPA.  Knowledge of computer software, including Microsoft Office.  Demonstrated competence in nursing practice, education and administration. Bi-lingual (Spoken/Manual) a plus.

Minimum QualificationsHold a current Arizona registered nurse license in good standing or multi-state privilege to practice in Arizona under A.R.S., Title 32, Chapter 15 and:

A graduate degree with a major in nursing;
A minimum of three years work experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care; and
A minimum of one academic year full-time experience teaching in or administering a nursing education program leading to licensure.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in curriculum development.  Experience in managing nursing programs. Demonstrated record of positive student, peer, supervisor, and stakeholder feedback.
